Belltown Dirt

Belltown seems to be center stage for urban city living lately. From shootings to night club noise, Belltown residents endure and persevere. Now it looks like the newest battle is over trash, so says the Seattle PI this morning.

As part of the Belltown community, my John L. Scott office participates in the Adopt-A-Street program and cleans 1st Avenue a few times every year. Though only a small gesture, we hope we’re doing our part to be good neighbors. We’ll be out on the morning of August 11th, picking-up trash and sweeping 1st Avenue. Say “hi” if you’re out and about.

Play Doh Drive for Children’s Hospital

playdoh2.jpgLast week I had an opportunity to volunteer for Dinner night, helping to prepare dinner at the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House provides accomodations for families with children who are receiving treatment at Children’s Hospital at Sand Point.

Children’s Hospital is now conducting a drive for Play Doh. The hospital goes through more than 2,000 jars of Play Doh every year. Due to the serious illnesses and compromised immune system that many of the children have, a jar of Play Doh can only be used once. And, thus is a considerable expense for the hospital.

To the readers of Seattle Condos and Lofts & Seattle Housing Buzz, please consider making a Play Doh donation to Children’s Hospital. Donations will be accepted through John L. Scott offices and not at the hospital. Our office is located at 2601 4th Avenue, Ste 100 in Belltown at the corner of 4th & Vine (map), however, all JLS offices will accept the Play Doh donations.

Repurposing the blog

Seattle Housing Buzz has been in limbo for awhile as I worked on two other real estate related blogs. In the past, I included info on condos, community events, pets, real estate technology and housing related posts so this blog never had a clear focus.

For now, SHB is being repurposed towards general housing information and market updates.

I’ve created a new blog, Seattle City Buzz, that’ll include community and lifestyle/livability information and things uniquely Seattle.

And, of course, Seattle Condos and Lofts, which provides details and reviews of Seattle’s condo and loft communities.

Seattle FD gets pet oxygen masks

petmask.jpgOne more good thing about living in the Emerald City -

“I’ve been to enough house fires where people are crying for us to save their pets,” Seattle firefighter Jennifer Bessler said. “This just gives us one more tool to help out a pet that’s maybe been in too long.”

Ferry’s to start charging for Wi-Fi

ferry.jpg

The Washington State Ferry system, which introduced free Wi-Fi access on a number of routes back in 2004, will now start charging for access. Additionally, the ferry system will expand Wi-Fi access to all 28th vessels in it’s fleet.

The cost of the Wi-Fi access is to be determined but may be similar to Wi-Fi prices at the state’s highway rest stops. Currently, the rest stops charge $2.95 for 15 minutes, $6.95 per day or $29.95 per month.

The old Rainier Brewery in the Georgetown neighborhood was acquired by the Sabey Corp. Sabey plans to convert the landmark designated, 5.5 acre property into new condominium housing.

Urban Visions acquires prime lot

Urban Visions, the company behind the proposed 30+ story 2nd & Pike condominium high-rise (not to be confused with 1521 or 2nd & Pine), purchased the Liberty Jewelry & Loan pawnshop building on Pike Street between 1st Avenue & 2nd Avenue.

The parcel is on the same block, just south of the 1521 project. Urban Visions plans to redevelop the property as another condo project, making it the 4th new condo building in a 3 block stretch of 2nd Avenue.
